Responding to life-threatening Bleeding.
I’ve been delving deep into the subject of life-threatening bleeding lately. Although it’s part of my First Aid program, I feel the need to emphasize the importance of the lay person to learn how to control bleeding specifically. A life-threatening event such as a vehicle accident, industrial accident or whatever modality of unfortunate event may lead a person to experience this type of emergency, can be fatal if not taken care of immediately. Many people are squeamish about dealing with blood, and that’s understandable. Especially if the event is very graphic in nature. However, the person experiencing this problem may not be able to help themself due to either becoming unconscious or experiencing shock, or just freaking out and not knowing what to do themself. This is where a trained person comes into play.
I am one of those squeamish individuals, however, due to my hours of training and conditioning, it isn’t as much as a problem anymore. In my mind, the need to respond first is well conditioned into my psyche. This is why I want to have focused training on life-threatening bleeding as a stand-alone class. To help others to learn the skill and practice it like the back of their hand. I’ve recently just signed up with the “Stop the Bleed Coalition”. Soon I will be conducting classes in both with my own certification classes and the Stop the Bleed coalition training. There is also a FAST (First Aid for Severe Trauma) program designed for high-school age children who could benefit from learning first aid skills in bleeding. Let me know what you think by leaving comments. Also, hit me up on my “Contact me” page if you want more information on any of my classes.
